Orlando Spring Corporation, a trusted name in precision spring and wire form manufacturing, was part of the F-35C Lightning’s record-setting night op test aboard the USS Nimitz on Nov. 14, 2014.
The aircraft successfully completed its night launch and landing test three days ahead of schedule as a result of its exceptional performance on the initial sea trials, thereby speeding through the first developmental test. The F-35C was able to outperform the F/A-18 Hornet and F/A-18 E/F Super Hornet, which typically carry out night ops at the second developmental trial phase.
“Orlando Spring is extremely proud to be a part of the evolution of the F-35 program to better support our troops around the world. We are in this for the long haul and will continue to support new military programs for all branches of the government by working directly with OEM’s as well as Tier 1 and Tier 2 partners,” said Frank Mauro, President of Orlando Spring. “The F-35 fighter is the most technically advanced military aircraft in the world, so each component that is fitted to this platform requires precision made parts that are built to the highest standards. Orlando Spring produces parts for this platform that require extremely tight squareness requirements in both the loaded and free states. This is one of the many requirements that separate Orlando Spring from all other spring companies,” said Bob Dominguez, Engineering Manager at Orlando Spring.
The F-35C, made with Orlando Spring’s precision components, reported a total of 33 flights conducted during the first developmental test. The test featured 124 catapults, 222 touch-and-go landings, and 124 arrestments. During these 39.2 flight hours, the F-35C did not miss any unintentional hook-down bolters and was able to catch an arresting wire at every single attempt.
Orlando Spring maintains numerous certifications and registrations, including: ISO 9001:2008, EN/JISQ AS 9100:2004, Nadcap process, DDTC for ITAR, Boeing-AQMS, and D6-82479. This historic success highlights the continued excellence found in Orlando Spring’s products and services and bolsters the company’s reputation in the precision manufacturing field.
Founded in 1957, Orlando Spring Corporation is a premier custom spring and wire form manufacturer with over 50 years of experience in the industry. Since its acquisition by Crosse Partners in 2009, the company has continued to provide exceptional quality components for the aerospace, defense, medical and precision commercial industries.

Orlando Spring Corporation, the largest West Coast aerospace and defense spring and wire-form manufacturer, announces Lockheed Martin’s formal approval of their in-house heat treatment services. Lockheed Martin representatives re-certified Orlando Spring’s heat-treatment quality specifications, most notably AMS 2759 and AMS 2759/3, among others. This approval demonstrates Orlando Spring’s uncommon commitment to vertically integrated manufacturing heat treatment services.
Orlando Spring’s in-house NADCAP accredited heat treatment service differentiates them in their industry, greatly reducing lead times for their customers. The company’s commitment to serving the most prestigious aerospace and defense companies is evidenced not only by its client list, but by its robust approvals and certifications: NADCAP, ITAR, ISO, AS-9100, AS-9104, and various Boeing-issued approvals. In addition to Boeing and Lockheed Martin, Raytheon, Honeywell, Airbus, Parker Hannifin, Pratt & Whitney, and Moog are a sampling of the elite names who trust Orlando to manufacture their OEM custom springs and wire-forms.
“This Lockheed Martin approval expands on our existing NADCAP and Boeing approvals, proving our commitment to aerospace and defense OEMs,” says Frank Mauro, President and CEO of Orlando Spring, a 30-Year industry veteran, former board member of the Spring Manufacturers Institute and former president of the Lonestar District of the Precision Metalforming Association. “Not only do we fabricate the parts, but we finish them in-house which enables us to remove external variables in the supply chain and makes us an ideal vertical manufacturing partner.”
Orlando Spring is grounded in experience and forward-thinking in its approach. Founded in 1957, the company was acquired in 2009 by Crosse Partners, an established long-term focused holding company focused on the aerospace industry, in order to grow and establish Orlando Spring’s exceptional reputation in the industry. Orlando Spring is quickly becoming the leader in vertically integrated, custom spring and wire-form manufacturing for aerospace and defense industries.
